| Customer Reviews: Forced Happiness May 22, 2010 Merry Reader (Indianapolis IN USA) This story is about Luke Randall, a former police officer from Philadelphia, Luke got burned out of trying to help people when his own brother died of a drug overdose, and he didn't even know his brother was a user.
Luke ended up in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains working with weather bureau.
After two years he was comfortable in his self-exile.
Then along comes Eve Tarrington, with her uncle Chester, two adorable kids and a huge dog.(I'm a sucker for kids in stories).
After losing their way on the trail, the 5 of them take over Luke's home.
Eve finds Luke to be just the man she needs in her life, and she goes about pursuing him. I like that angle, but it got old pretty quick when she was so perky, and he was so depressed.
The children were very well behaved and seldom spoke, of course it might have been that they couldn't get in a word edge-wise for Eve's constant chattering.
But love will out, and it turned out that Luke really was just what she and her small family needed.
From the back of the book: 'Breaking the ice...Luke Randall had forgotten that people like Eve Tarrington existed; even in the face of near disaster she was cheerful. When she and her kids appeared at his doorstep in a snowstorm, he had no choice but to offer them shelter. Now he was snowbound with a blond pixie and her family-and the cabin was growing unseasonably warm...
Eve's vacation in the mountains had been full of unexpected twists of fate. But meeting Luke had thrown her for a loop. She was fascinated by his restless magnetism, undaunted by his need for solitude-and determined not to be defeated by his frosty reserve. Soon she discovered there was one sure way to melt his icy heart-give him the gift of love.'
